Tampa Zen Center:
Zen Meditation as taught at San Francisco Zen Center is now in Tampa! The Soto School of Zen Buddhist practice came through China, India and Japan before Zen Master Shunryu Suzuki Roshi brought it to the U.S.A. in the 1950s.
Tampa Zen Center is a community of 'spiritual friends' who meet each week to sit in silence as well as have discussions about meditation practice. We utilize a traditional Zen posture and simple forms.
In Zazen (meditation), we choose to let go of our thoughts to calm our active minds. Zazen helps us bring stillness and focus into our daily lives as we practice being engaged fully in each moment. This engagement with reality helps wipe away our aversion to the raw face of life just as it is.
We meet on Sunday mornings around 7:30 AM where we have discussion about practice and introductions to Zazen for new participants. Then we sit two 30 minute periods of Zazen with a 10 minute walking meditation between sittings. We end with a short service and a reading from a selected Dharma teaching. Afterward we have a brief clean-up period, then social time with coffee/tea and pastries. All are welcome.
